2 september, 08:30 - 11:00

Welcome to a deep-dive session on the future of energy. Lisa, an expert in next-generation electricity systems, will guide us through the transformation of Sweden’s energy landscape.
Target Audience: Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises (SMEs) in the Energy Sector
Time: September 2, 2025, 09:00–11:00 (Drop-in Coffee: from 08:30)
Location: OOTO Café, Chalmers Industriteknik, Sven Hultins Gata 1–2, Gothenburg
A Swedish electricity system that can meet the transformation of the industrial and transport sectors – Lisa Göransson, Chalmers
The energy system is facing a historic change to meet the climate goals. In Sweden and other industrialised countries, this means electrification of the transport and industrial sectors, and with it a sharp increase in demand for electricity.
We will look at three possible future electricity systems in Sweden that meet the demand increase for the industrial and transport sectors, including electricity systems with new nuclear power and large-scale wind power and solar power generation, and address questions such as ”what do we do when there is no wind?”.
The electricity systems are developed using calculation models that provide the electricity system composition and operation that can meet the demand for electricity at the lowest cost to society. I will also explain how we develop such calculation models and main assumptions that impact the results.
Speaker: Lisa Göransson, Chalmers University of Technology
Lisa Göransson is an Associate Professor at the Division of Energy Technology, Chalmers University of Technology. Her research focuses on variation management, sector coupling, and decentralization in energy systems. Together with six PhD students, she collaborates across disciplines—including electrical engineering, mathematics, computer science, and social science. Her work has led to a functionality-based framework for selecting variation management strategies, supported by new methods and models for energy systems planning.
